at the time this came out you could hear beaumont was trying to be different, there was a certain tiredness in the air with how things sounded, there were a couple of tracks i really loved and still love (sym-phon5, t-Gh6493) but even then to my youngish ears it lacked something, the sounds he wanted/worked with didn't really move me and listening now i havent changed my opinion just got more critical, i continued to buy more of his stuff but in retrospect it didn't get better but glad he tried

yeah sorry but you're wrong. this stuff is extremely nuanced.

Anokhi is the cut on here for me, super deep, great build up, and then when it peaks it shoots into another orbit, very low in bpm, so not easily mixed with a lot of other idm stuff. Great track!

A must! Classic album on GPR. Best from Hannant. Check "Artificial Intelligence II" on Warp for another great one track.

There are few things in life as intriguing or as varied as human creativity. This nine-tracked mini-album, the second in the ‘Tastes and Textures’ series testifies to that. It features Hannant’s beautifully fragile digital minimalism merging with peculiar echoes and feedback. This curious combination of atmospheric ambience with the driving rhythm patterns of what sounds like ‘rock’ drumming is cool, enigmatic and wonderfully complex. Fascinating and hypnotic, this album apparently divided into mild and heavy sections, challenges and reinterprets electronic sound in a distinctly individualistic manner. The rhythms of ‘Lude’ are so heavily industrialised they are almost threatening. Energetic noise carried into swirls of cymbals, dosed with acid eccentricity. There is a poignancy, if not undercurrents of melancholy, in ‘Sym-phon 5.’ The final track ‘Dei Form’ sends sparks of acid colliding into a pulsing confusion of sound, before drifting into the emptiness of silent space. This is certainly promising. An interesting way to begin the 21st Century. (written and published 1993)

Well perceived and captured. And neatly written as well. BH was/is an interesting artist and surely was in its/his own right a pioneer.

Beaumont Hannant burst onto the IDM scene with _Basic Data Manipulation: Tastes and Textures, Vol. 2_, on the late and great label GPR Productions. The computer call-and-response of “Basic Dialog” sets the stage for the rest of the album, with its filtered beats and angular melodies. “Sym-phon5” contrasts a funky hip-hop rhythm to its ethereal strings, while “T-gh6493” quietly shuffles and hums. Compare that to the urgent thrum of “Sc931” or the heavy thuds of the mysterious and ominous “Anokhi.” The sharp tones that start “The Hunted” are reminiscent of sharpening knives before the pursuit begins. “Dei-form” ends the album with pounding techno, putting the D back into IDM.
