Fans waited four years for a follow-up to Rage Against The Machine, and Evil Empire did not disappoint, debuting atop the Billboard 200 and featuring favorites like Bulls On Parade and the GRAMMY Award-winning Tire Me. Rage famously promoted the release with a performance on Saturday Night Live that doubled as a protest of host and then-presidential hopeful Steve Forbes. Evil Empire is the second album by the crossover band Rage Against The Machine. It was released in April 1996, almost four years after their debut album. The title is a saying by former US President Ronald Reagan, who described the Soviet Union as the evil empire. Evil Empire was number 1 on the billboard charts and the song Tire Me won a Grammy in 1996 for the best metal performance. Evil Empire Q&A. Rage Against the Machine spent four years making their second album, Evil Empire. As the title suggests, their rage and contempt for the fascist capitalist system in America hadn't declined in the nearly half-decade they were away. Their musical approach didn't change, either. Lead vocalist Zack de la Rocha is caught halfway between the militant raps of Chuck D and the fanatical ravings of a street preacher, shouting out his simplistic, libertarian slogans over the sonically dense assault of the band. Since the band didn't perform together much after 1993, there isn&. Amazing instrumentals. Amazing production. Very funky bass lines. Amazing guitar parts and solos. Incredible vocals and rapping. Great drumming. Amazing flow. Amazing lyrics with great wordplay, for the most part. Rage Against the Machine were not just revolutionaries- they were idols. They stood against what they hated, regardless of the consequences. They did not just appeal to the liberal kids who thought anarchy was the hip fad, they appealed to kids who had trouble rising against the bullies, and the born leaders. If you are looking for an album to get into Tom Morellos more unconventional playing, Evil Empire is your pick. But if the guitar and vocals are picturesque, and the riffing is heavy and the attitude is present, isnt a Rage album already perfect Id hate to say it, but Evil Empire lacks the groove that the self titled and Battle of Los Angeles seemed to showcase

Really like the emphasize on mids here. Gives the album a very nice presence compared to the og Euro press and the MOV.
Goltikree
seems like it since its the same 2016 repress mastered from Evil Empire's european original metal parts.
Agarus
The spine rather funnily has the album title as "ELIV EMPIRE"!
Acebiolane
This cut sounds a bit dull and harsh to my ears. This is due in no small part to the actual mixing in the first place; their self-titled was just a better mixed album and it transfers beautifully to whatever medium. Evil Empire is a bit more fussy . . .
Kaghma
Has anyone noticed that the vocals for both verses on "Roll Right" are not the same as on the original album? The lyrics on the liner notes have the correct words from the original, but on this record for some reason the lyrics are not the same. They sound like a rough draft and even have some of the lyrics from "Down Rodeo" on the them. All the instrumentation and even the chorus is correct, but the verses are not. That really bothers me. It's too bad because up until that point I was really happy with the overall sound quality and experience. How in the hell did that happen?
Saimath
The MFSL record of Sisters of Mercy's Floodland has alternate takes never heard before. They're vinyl-only released tracks and it's pretty cool but if you're expecting the original versions you might be taken aback.
Jorius
This is what brought me here. I was about to sing along, and then, it's not the song I know. But, I think it's cool that I have this copy, since it's another version of a great track.
Ndyardin
It also happened with some Back To Black releases of In Utero with e Steve Albini mix on two tracks.
WOGY
Same here. Actually, it seems like an error from the company but I do enjoy it!
Darksinger
I noticed this when I got my copy a couple weeks ago and found that someone looked into it: https://hate5six.com/rollrightI think this is kinda cool. I love hearing alternate takes and rarities so this is a rad Easter egg. I wonder if this should get marked as a mispress?
Braendo
Well. It sounds nice but not amazing. Correct I would say. More mediums, especially for the bass guitar. It sounds maybe sharpier on some parts but less heavy and more flat.
Berkohi
What you get with this, and Audio Fidelity’s RATM release, is a more pleasant experience. Put headphones on and crank the original. It’s kinda harsh and your ears may be mad at you. I can crank these without a problem.
Tehn
Played this and the 2018 RE RM 180 release on black vinyl back to back; both pressings are very clean, but sound like pressed mp3 files. I don't have any earlier pressings to compare mastering to, but I found the 2018 pressings left something to be desired at the end of the day. Great album non the less!
Abandoned Electrical
I also listened to this and sounded like mp3 quality. Even compared side by side to my CD issue that I've had since age 13 and CD sounded better. I know vinyl pressings can vary in quality but I noticed this mp3-like quality even independently of others' posts on here
Anayanis
No doubt. However, this and Ratatat-Classics are the only items in my vinyl collection that sound flat and worse than the digital masters. Evil Empire is the worst of the two and both were purchased new in shrink. Even feeding the signal through a BBE to give it some colour doesn't make it any better...Ya... I literally just flipped back and forth between the Flac file and vinyl in sink and its markedly worse. A much narrower sound field, less bass presence and pinched in the mid range.
Undeyn
SST mastering, Noiseland (MPO) pressing...ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that this sounds like mp3 files, sorry!
Hulore
This is a real treat to own. Super punchy and just enough bass, gonna be spinning this a lot.
Vozuru
Did anyone notice the track "roll right" is an alternate version from the original or I'm smoking something
Vivaral
42 is the answer i believe assuming Deep Thought is right
Thetalune
You're not high man. It is an alternate version with a bit of Down Rodeo lyric snippet. I think it's on vinyl only, the digital version is still the original track.
Levaq
I swear to God I thought I was the only one who noticed that. It borrows a few lyrics from Down Rodeo. It says nothing about it on the purchase page.
NI_Rak
Now you have me questioning the meaning of life and everything..
Anarus
Oh yeah, that "Snakechamber" is a killer track! "Send em' to...the snakechamber!" -Zach De La Rocha
Ausstan
Don't buy this off the flippers who are already posting it for sale just yet, like Mr. Corned Beef says it is still available, and Newbury Comics has reasonable shipping prices
Arashilkis
Can still get this for a cool 28 bills on newbury site
Silly Dog
Anyone had the chance to listen to this press yet?And how does it sound?
Swift Summer
Have you compared it to the MOV reissue, I wonder...
Ishnsius
Nice pressing quality. Bangs like first hearing!Makes me smile bright.
Fohuginn
has anyone had a chance to do a side by side on this compared to the MOV release? Just curious of sq...
Eng.Men
robmausser Im trying to even understand what the hell a "MOV" release is? MOV is Music On Vinyl (label).
Kamuro
I've had great luck with MOV releases, usually high quality pressings and sound quality, sucks that they missed the mark on it.As for this release, I can't compare to the MOV. But I will say that the drums and vocals are very up front and center in this mix, very mid heavy mix. I like the presence of this recording, and the pressing quality is nice.
Arcanescar
Last time I bought their debut album MOV release sounds sucks. Then I bought We Are Vinyl release and sounds awesome. I prefer this release (WAV) than MOV.
Nalmezar
It is Music On Vinyl from Holland a company that do repressings and I'm curious too because the sound it is not so good
CrazyDemon
Im trying to even understand what the hell a "MOV" release is?
Nettale
It's a good remaster. The difference is not night and day from the original CD, it's a little less bright and a little more dynamic but very good overall. A few parts here and there sound pretty huge as a result and it's a welcomed improvement. Just keep in mind, the changes are relatively subtle.
Mr_Jeйson
Does this version have the following information?Matrix 1-1-481026 01Mastering SID code IFPI L391Mold SID code IFPI 6610Other (Batch ID): AH0002000If so could you update the data? Thank you
Hellblade
How did this possibly sell for that much? (Oct. 2017)
Rose Of Winds
Rage Against the Machine, Evil Empire... Will we get The Battle of Los Angeles reissue someday? It has a couple good tracks, too ;)
Helldor
Since Audio Fidelity closed, I doubt it. I'm hopefully too because that album could use a lot of improvement as far as the CD goes. Maybe they could get ahold of "No Shelter" (like my Australian version does and fix it too).
Cala
Don't know if anyone has noticed but one side is mixed louder than the other, real shame ...
Sataxe
Finally listening to mine and DAMMIT that is annoying!! Side B is very clearly much quieter. And here I was, all excited because I just listened to the RATM XX picture disc version and (of course) it was way too quiet & crackly; and Side A of this guy sounded WAY better. Pretty fantastic, actually. And now here I am on Side B, cranking the shit way more than I want... Annoying, especially with headphones. Good thing it's a clean pressing, at least. Washed it, too.But still... Why, MOV?!
Drelalak
Definitely correct.. If they did this on purpose due to space constraints, then shame on them. I’d have rather they made side A just as quiet as side B with a bit of extra dead wax than to make us all mess with the volume between sides. Very surprised by this seeing how it’s a MOV release.
Yayrel
my copy has the same exact issue. Side A is perfect and side B is mastered way lower in volume.
Gavinranadar
YES!! At first I was like... hm? Luckily I use a DJ mixer so I compared the output levels which are visulaised by small LED lights, and there I noticed that Side B ist substantially quieter.Oh well, I guess they tried to fit all songs on one side and hat to reduce the volume in order to achieve enough space for the grooves. Doesn't diminish the great sound quality though. Just crank up the volume ;DAnnoying though, I get it ;)
Garr
Yep i noticed that. Just turn it up, no problems... it may be due to side length, i havent really checked the running time....
Gabar
WOW. Absolutely amazing press. Loud, crisp, and punchy. Not a single snap crackle or pop.
Umdwyn
I am sorry with mondie but i don't agree with their review.Provided that i only listened to the CD layer, i have to say that this reissue sounds fantastic: it is full of punch, it is much more dynamic than the original CD or C7 pressings and instrument separation is clear and defined. I hope that even The Battle Of Los Angeles will get the same treatment.
Mallador
This SACD failed to live up to my expectations. Average-good at best, prefer my LP copy and the original CD is about as good as this SACD.
Yozshunris
The SACD doesn't blow the original CD away completely, but it does leave it behind. The SACD feels more open where as the original CD isn't bad, but there are parts that are "closed" aka brickwalled.
Fenius
Oh no, I'm sorry but the original CD release sounds NOTHING like this SACD release.
Querlaca
Like eponymous Rage Against The Machine, an hybrid SACD version is on the way from Audio Fidelity (3).
jorik
Has anyone noticed pops on Side B during Down Rodeo ("Can't waste a day when the night brings a hearse") for about 10-15 seconds? The rest of the album sounds flawless.
Abuseyourdna
Is this the same cut as the Music On Vinyl version?
Amarin
jimhb Is this the same cut as the Music On Vinyl version? yep...same run out and everything.
Narim
Great pressing. Loud but not overblown. Could be considered a bit "bright" depending on your setup, but mileage may vary.
Vivados
How does this one sound? Better than the original US?
Skilkancar
Can anyone comment on this press for me? I've heard the original US press is terrible, how is the EU?
Asher
All of the MOV reissues are represses of the original European pressing. I would think they would sound as good as an original.
Marirne
I have the repress VMP version and that one sounds good. The US pressing that I do have doesn't sound all that bad, but this pressing is better.
Nayatol
I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying it sounds good?
Hulis
Too far for an answer but got it, be shure it sounds great, but never heard the US press.
Bys
Anyone have a first press US or UK? Does it sound as crisp as the s/t album?
Vobei
This Music On Vinyl pressing is THE cleanest piece of vinyl I've heard. Not one pop or click in it's entirety, and MOV deserves some love for that.
Uaha
No it doesn't. They reserve those for soundtracks. ten words
Peles
I have three music on vinyl albums and all sound the best of my collection besides pink Floyd. A company that owns up to it's premium reissue label. They mean what they say. Does this have a premium jacket like natural born killers and lost highway?
Mezilabar
It's a quiet press. Really got crank it up. I wasn't that impressed.
DrayLOVE
Just bought a copy and couldn't agree with you more. MOV has it together.
Dianaghma
Completely agree.
Itiannta
What is the sound quality like besides it being void of pops & clicks?
Exellent
Not as good as the first Rage album, but still 5 star worthy.
