My brother is going away to college soon, and in preparation, yesterday, he got a Mac laptop. As advertised by those obnoxious commercials with the dude from Dodgeball and the guy who wrote the book that has the whole chapter about famous hobos, he had his Mac up and running and was enjoying many of the ready-to-wear features of his laptop. To set the record straight, I like Aphex Twin a lot, and consider him to be incredibly talented, unlike my brother

Am wondering if anyone can help? On the copy I have everything matches this release, except the run outs on sides A and B are RS 94035 - A1 and RS 94035 - B1. Do I have this version?
Hrguig
Consider me impatient, because I found a used copy of this in a good condition at an exceptional price ($26). I do wish for this album to get another pressing someday, because the hits on this LP is my forte for heavy, eclectic, acid techno sound, and I know there are others like me who want the chance to own that kind of sound on wax. The kind of sound that I used to register with Aphex Twin, even if he's not entirely defined by that particular sub-genre. Still, "Phlange Phace" and "Isopropanol" are the songs that always hangs on my personal AFX Top 10 mixes.

My copy has the same matrix of A0000018120-0101 but 41 A6. The SID is also IFPI L551 but, unlike the disc photo for this entry, the DADC logo says 'AUSTRIA" under it.

Reprints the Digeridoo and Xylem Tube EPs. Digeridoo ep also reprinted one song from his first ever release (Analogue Bubblebath), but which song depended on if you had the European printing or the US printing. Both songs are included here. The version of Analogue Bubblebath (the song) used on the US version was missing a half second of the beginning, and the version of Isopropophlex (mis-titled Isopropanal here) on the European version has an extra minute in the middle. This collection also has 4 bonus songs: the unofficial Aphex Twin theme song "Metapharstic" (the only vocals are a chant of "Aphex"), the 2 ultra-harsh remixes of "We Have Arrived" (apparently the album they're originally from was fetching big prices even back in 1994), and a live version of Digeridoo from 1990. Remember his first release was late 1991 so this track was a glimpse into the pre-release days. It's not mentioned what band name he was going under at the time, but since it was 1990 it was probably "Phonic Boy on Dope" (PBoD).As for the main songs, Digeridoo is both fast and long (7 minutes), written intentionally to wear out the devoted dancers in the audience at the end of a show. Flaphead and Phloam are somewhat forgettable hardcore tracks. Isopropanal (originally titled Isopropophlex) is an extended version of track 2 from the Analogue Bubblebath ep, and is definitely the better version of the song. The song is good enough to be the lead track of an ep of it's own. Polynomial-C is one of Aphex Twin's best songs, somehow managing to sound both beautiful and frantic (due to a steady stream of notes). Tamphex is both a great song and a hilarious parody of a real tampex ad ("are you one of those girls for whom time stops...once a month?" complete with spooky 'time stopping' music). I'd say Phlange Phace and Dodeccaheedron are just as forgettable as Flaphead and Phloam, but I know some people are big fans of Dodeccaheedron's creepy vibe. Btw as far as I know "dodeccaheedron" means "20 sided object". Analogue Bubblebath is a beautiful song, and was the first song on Aphex Twin's first release (the Analogue Bubblebath ep).Would I recommend this album? Yes, highly! Look for the one with the blue cover rather than the one that looks like an inverted version of Selected Ambient Works 85-92's cover. There's no difference in the music, it's just the better artwork. As far as easy to find Aphex Twin albums go, you can get almost everything he did in 1991 and 1992 if you get Classics, Analogue Bubblebath, Caustic Window Compilation, and Selected Ambient Works 85-92. At that point all you're missing of the 9 releases he had in that time span are the Pac-Man ep, the first Bradley Strider ep, and Analogue Bubblebath 2. Pac-Man isn't THAT common, and good luck finding the last 2 without paying a lot.

I'm sure my copy is this one, in a generic Apollo sleeve, but my run outs say 94035 like the gatefold copy, not 95035 as on the label. Any ideas?
Cetnan
94035 is the A and 95035 on the B side
Mardin
I've got a copy of this with black and white labels (same art as the original release, just not in color), and the Runouts are Side A - Apt. A, Side B - Apt. B, and both sides C and D are Apt. C. I'm assuming that the copy I have is this version. Does anyone know if this is an official release or not?
Haracetys
my copy has the same labels in b/w and runouts as yours, but I have no confirmation if this is an official release or not ...

Vinyl 1 of my copy is clear translucent vinyl with just a very slight tinge of blue through it (not quite a marble effect but almost on its way), while the second vinyl is aqua blue as per the photos.

Id pay good money for this!!! AHH

There is a great collection of RDJ from the 90s. They tend to be harder, beat driven tracks, but I believe the softer tracks like "Polynomial-C", "Digeridoo" and "Analogue Bubblebath 1" stand out the most.

Richard D James is in the nineties a completely original artist. Aphex Twin is of course a beats-focused music, but in a weird way, with strange sound effects applied on the percussions, always on the tightrope with noise. He roughly can also be seen as a pioneer of the actual breakcore and noisecore styles. This "classics" cd is a collection of songs already released elsewhere (the first four are on the "didgeridoo ep", the following four are on the "xylem tube ep", and "metapharstic" was released on the compilation "mayday a new chapter of house & techno 92". If you don't know Aphex twin (we never knows...) get this and go directly to the following key tracks : isopropanol, phlange phace & dodeccaheedron. Listening to these tracks is like being on a trip to an unknown and mysterious destination, but already hostile. Overall a very good collection. Recommended.

A few noteson this release: Track 02, Flaphead: Slightly different than the original on first R&S Digeridoo vinyl. On the vinyl the song fades out, doesn't here. Track 04, Isopropanol: This track is the same as on the original Digeridoo vinyl, but different than the version Analogue Bubblebath 1. On AB1 the track over is 1 minute shorter and sounds much clearer. Track 06: Tamphex (Hedphuq Mix): Same as on it's other releases, but is spelled slightly differently (Headphuq Mix) on the original Xylem Tube vinyl. Track 07, Phlange Phace: Same as on the Xylem Tube vinyl, but on the original pressing the track seems to be playing faster and so is shorter. Track 08, Dodeccaheedron: Same as track 07. Track 09, Analogue Bubblebath 1: Appears to be a slight different mix than appears on the AB1 cd. The track ends differently and is a few seconds longer on Classics. Just a bit of trivial facts for those who care. :)

The track #4, named here Isopropanol, is in fact the same than Isoprophlex, as featured on the first Analog Bubblebath, released by Richard D. James as AFX on Mighty Force label back in 1991. It was included on his first releazse on R&S as Aphex Twin (RS92001 - Digeridoo) un der the name Isoprophlex.

Another Aphex Twin classic. Not so much chill out or anarchistic, more of an old skool rave collection harking back to the good old days. Great banging headf**k tunes best experienced with a likeminded bunch of maniacs.
unmasked
This is a must have for industrial music fans, especially when your into techno music. The "We have arrived" remixes are a good show case of his ability to invent weird sounds, against all mainstream usage of 909, 808, m1 etc..
Whitebinder
The great thing about this record is that it wound up a few issues if you were interested in collecting AFX records: Firstly, "Metapharstic" was finally released properly to a wider audience which, until this record was published, the only copy in circulation was on the first Mayday compilation of '92, which is a really bad quality pressing with a lot of tracks squeezed onto the two, rather thin, records. (it had the same amount of tracks as the CD) Secondly two of the tracks off the notorious AFX Purple label have finally been named with the 12" not being any help there, as it was...well, purple. (Incidentally - there is a minor difference between the first run of this awesome 12" and the later batches, though it was the same pressing - the dye used on the blank purple label was rather volatile, being an almost luminescent hue, a bit like ultramarine (except purple) After the first batch of records were done at Disco Press (where R&S cuts all it's records) and the dye was left till the next batch was booked, for some reason the dye lost it's flourescent quality and the bulk of this release never got to see the concept colour that Renaat was so keen to get out and had specially made up for this record.) Interestingly, the blue 'Classics' is a much finer quality vinyl and a much better pressing than the black copy, usually, it is the other way around.
